Maria Marta
María, 42, is happily married and has six children, one of whom is still in school and depends on her. She and her husband worked hard so their other children could finish high school. María has a third grade education because her parents could not afford to continue supporting her. María and her husband are crop farmers, growing basic grains such as corn, beans and coffee, which they have been selling for 14 years on a small scale at the local market and to neighbors. Their parents were crop farmers all their life and taught them the trade. Their farmland is two kilometers from their house, and they walk to work every day to care for and supervise the crops. María owns her land and is thankful to God for everything she has.

María is currently requesting a loan to buy fertilizers for her coffee crop so she can give it proper care and obtain a healthy, productive harvest

Her goals are to increase crop production so she can earn more income for the household and the family. She wants to continue helping her husband with main expenses, but her youngest son is her top priority. She wants him to follow in his sibling's footsteps to get a good education so he will have better employment opportunities.

La tierra que maría trabaja es propia y le agradece a DIOS por eso y por todo lo que a diario le da.

More information about this loan

These loans are designed for female farmers who produce a variety of products (onion, garlic, eggplant, spinach, mango, strawberries, etc.). Loan terms will vary depending on need, and borrowers can choose to make a "bullet" payment timed with harvest profits. Agricultural loans are considered risky in Honduras due to external forces like unpredictable weather and worldwide crop prices. As a result, many traditional financial institutions are unwilling to offer these loans. With Kiva funding, COMIXMUL will be able to reach more borrowers with agricultural loans tailored to their needs.
