Camilo Andrés
Camilo is 21 years old and his dreams motivate him to get ahead in his search for a better future. He has been working since he came of age, because his family’s economic situation isn’t great.

Studying is one of his great passions and perhaps his biggest motivation, which has propeled him to get a job to pay his university studies.

He explains that getting a job has been a difficult task since his lack of studies prevents him from being competent when compared to other people. This is what caused him to be underemployed. He started by selling fruits in his neighborhood, and then, thanks to his savings, he bought a cart from which he sells sweets and natural drinks that he prepares himself. Thanks to this work, he now finds himself studying technology. He wants to improve his business’s stock, which is why he is requesting a loan, which he will use to buy fruits and snack foods.

He hopes to be able to improve the living conditions for his mother and his grandmother, guaranteeing them a better future.

Important Information

This loan is structured on Kiva as a bullet loan, which means a single payment is required at the end of the loan term. By Colombian law, Kiva's partner Interactuar is required to offer borrowers loans with a variable interest rate that fluctuates with the market rate. Because fixed monthly payments are applied first to interest and then to principal, Interactuar is unable to predict upfront what portion of each repayment would go towards the loan principal. This creates a challenge with Kiva's system, which doesn't allow for unpredictable principal payments, and can result in some Interactuar clients appearing falsely delinquent. To remedy this, the loan has an end-of-term repayment plan on Kiva, but the borrower will continue scheduled monthly repayments to Interactuar, who will then pass along the principal amount to Kiva lenders. This means that you may see repayments made on this loan throughout the repayment term, as opposed to receiving repayment in full at the end of the loan term.
