Sokhbet M. is 46 years old. Together with his wife and three daughters, he lives in the Internally Displaced People's Settlement of the Bilasuvar region. Sokhbet earns income selling milk and yoghurt directly to people in the area, as well as to the local milk factory. He started this business in 1992 and now needs a loan of US$1,200 to purchase two additional milk cows.
Aqroinvest Credit Union was founded by a group of 32 Imishli farmers in 2001, and has grown to become one of the largest credit unions in Azerbaijan. It boasts a portfolio of nearly $5 million and is wholly owned by its more than 3,500 borrowers, as of December 2011.
