Victor Giovanni
Victor is 20 years old and lives in Chincha, a city known for its warm climate, the kindness of its inhabitants, and its beautiful beaches. Victor is a hard-working man with a humble spirit. He is the father of a small two-year-old boy whom he loves very much, and for whom he goes out every day to work with all his strength so that he can give him a better quality of life. Since his youth, Victor has made a great effort to get ahead in life because his parents had little financial resources and because of that he was only able to attend school until the fifth grade.

Every day Victor works as a laborer for a storage company. He spends about ten hours at work each day, and gets up very early so that he can begin work. He believes that his job is going well because he is very responsible with his work and because they trust him.

Victor is very grateful to the Kiva lenders because thanks to the support they have offered him he will be able to make improvements to his home, in particular by plastering the walls, and veneering and replacing the flooring. Thus, he will be able to improve his quality of life and continue working to make his greatest dream a reality: to finish building his house.

Today, it also offers credit for consumers, microenterprises and housing improvements, and has expanded its financial services to promote micro-savings and provide micro-insurance. This institution has been instrumental in helping borrowers recover from the devastating earthquake in the Ica region in 2007, and works with Peru’s National Bank to reach some of the poorest and most remote microfinance clients in the country.

About Housing Loans

Many poor families cannot afford housing that meets their needs. When you make a housing loan on Kiva, you give people access to flexible capital to obtain or improve their homes. Better housing means better health, sanitation, and even educational outcomes for children. A house can also be much more for entrepreneurs who run businesses out of their homes. In this way, housing and small business loans on Kiva share a common purpose: to alleviate poverty and enable families to enjoy more stable lives.
