Zaida
Zaida, 35, is married and lives with her husband and their 3 children. With this loan, she plans to buy fabric to make school uniforms for her children, and also notebooks, pens, pencil sharpeners, and school bags to carry the supplies. Zaida wants her children to study so that they can have a better future and a better quality of life. She and her husband have limited resources; the only inheritance that she can give them is an education, so that they will be able to provide for themselves in the future. This is why she is requesting this loan. This is the first loan that she has received from FUDECOSUR. She hadn't taken loans with the state banks before, but FUDECOSUR has provided her with a loan with better payment terms and a much lower rate of interest.

More information about this loan

FUDECOSUR works in one of the poorest regions of Costa Rica, where microfinance institutions (MFIs) are scarce or have a hard time keeping up with demand for small loans. By providing mostly agricultural loans, FUDECOSUR reaches rural borrowers that many MFIs consider to be too risky. However, this has also made it more difficult for the organization to find stable sources of capital to lend. Kiva's flexible, risk-tolerant capital plays a critical role in helping FUDECOSUR grow its portfolio and support even more borrowers.
