Henry is a father of two children, and their ages are eighteen and four years. They are both in school. Henry is 41 years old and has ten solid years in active farming in his home area. Besides farming, he runs a retail business at the local market.
Henry has requested a loan of 50,000 KES from Juhudi Kilimo to help improve his farming business. He will use the loan to buy a chuff cutter and construct a dairy unit for his cows. He says the improved farming income will help him give a better education to his children and improve his family's living standards substantially.
Henry mentions lack of rain, animal diseases, and pests as the main challenges farmers grapple with. He says he chose Juhudi Kilimo for funding since it is the best loan institution for smallholder farmers in the area.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
