María is a 29-year-old woman who lives in Sololá with her parents. She has five sisters; four of whom are married and live independently, and one younger sister who helps with the household tasks. María makes a living selling groceries in a store that she has a few kilometers from her home. She started this business after seeing the need to generate income for her family. Since there was a lack of jobs in the community she decided to start a grocery store which she acquired a year ago. She learned how to run this business three years ago when she worked with some neighbors outside of her community where she gained experience in this activity.

María sees that her customer's demand and her income are good, so she wants to expand her store. She is asking for a loan of 10,000 GTQ to buy a larger assortment of groceries, thus increasing her store in order to offer better service and get a better income for her family. Her great dream is that in the future she can build a better home and continue supporting the growth of her family.
