"Many called the city an earthly paradise. But this depends on the lens you're looking through, because I prefer the tranquility and fresh air that I breathe in the countryside." With these words, Luis, 67 years old, explains why he decided to make a home with his wife in a small town in Amagá, Colombia.
Thirty-five years ago, Luis began to make a living raising pigs. Since then, it has been the single source of income for his household. Luis loves what he does and he give thanks to God that he still has his health and strength to keep working to provide for his family. Currently, he is requesting a loan to buy animal feed in bulk so that he can reduce his costs and do some repairs for his pig pens. He hopes that this investment will allow him to increase his earnings and improve his quality of life.
Luis dreams of increasing his production capacity and creating more jobs for young people in his area.
“Muchos llaman la ciudad un paraíso terrenal, pero eso depende del cristal con que se mire, porque en mi caso prefiero la tranquilidad y el aire puro que se respira en el campo” Con estas palabras Luis de 67 años de edad, explica las razones que lo motivaron a radicarse en un corregimiento del municipio de Amagá, Colombia, en donde vive con su esposa.
Desde hace 35 años se dedica a la cría de cerdos, actividad que se ha constituido en la única fuente de ingresos para su hogar. Ama lo que hace y agradece a Dios porque aún conserva salud y fuerza para seguir luchando por el bienestar de su familia.
En la actualidad se encuentra solicitando un crédito que invertirá en la compra de cuido al por mayor con el fin de reducir costos y realizar adecuaciones en sus corrales. Espera que esta inversión le permita aumentar sus ingresos y mejorar sus condiciones de vida.

This loan is structured on Kiva as a bullet loan, which means a single payment is required at the end of the loan term. By Colombian law, Kiva's partner Interactuar is required to offer borrowers loans with a variable interest rate that fluctuates with the market rate. Because fixed monthly payments are applied first to interest and then to principal, Interactuar is unable to predict upfront what portion of each repayment would go towards the loan principal. This creates a challenge with Kiva's system, which doesn't allow for unpredictable principal payments, and can result in some Interactuar clients appearing falsely delinquent. To remedy this, the loan has an end-of-term repayment plan on Kiva, but the borrower will continue scheduled monthly repayments to Interactuar, who will then pass along the principal amount to Kiva lenders. This means that you may see repayments made on this loan throughout the repayment term, as opposed to receiving repayment in full at the end of the loan term.
