Nelia is 58 years old and lives in Pulot, Ozamiz City, in the Philippines. She is married with two adult children and has been operating a general store for almost six years. She earns approximately 2000 Philippines pesos (PHP) every month and has requested a loan to buy stocks for her general store such as shampoo, toothpaste, soap and other consumable products.
Nelia has been a member of PMPC for almost five years. She hopes to expand her business into a neighboring town after three years.
About Paglaum Multi-Purpose Cooperative
Paglaum Multi-Purpose Cooperative (PMPC) was founded in 1992 by the beneficiaries, parents and staff of the Paglaum Community Development Foundation to address economic and livelihood activities for sustainability. The organization operates in the northwestern provinces of Mindanao and Visayas.
In the local vernacular, “paglaum” means “hope.” The initial foundation is dedicated to child development through a holistic approach. The goal is to build self-reliance and expand opportunity so the poorest of the poor can help themselves.
