Muchui is aged 41 years and a farmer in Nkubu county, Kenya, where he lives with his wife and two children. Both of the children are schooling. Muchui has been in farming for 15 years, producing cereal grains, milk and horticultural crops, which he sells at the local market in his area.
He is requesting to borrow 30,000 KES from Juhudi Kilimo, to purchase irrigation equipment. Irrigation will help him to improve his production, in case the rain is not enough for his crops. He will use the profits of his work to educate his children. He intends to buy a car for transporting his produce, within the next five years. Drought, pests and diseases are his major challenges in farming.
Muchui is grateful for the way Juhudi Kilimo is fast in processing loans.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
