Rosemary is a 39-year-old farmer in Nkubu county in Kenya, where she lives with her husband and three children. Her children are all in school. She has been farming for the past 11 years, producing milk, mangoes, bananas and maize, which she sells at a nearby market in her area.
She is requesting a loan for 31,200 KES from Juhudi Kilimo to buy and insure a dairy cow, which will help her increase her income, boost her living standards and provide school fees for her children's education. She hopes to open a milk bar, since she will have more milk produced to boost her income in the next five years.
Rosemary says that she believes her business will grow through getting a loan from Juhudi Kilimo.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
