Chacha is a widow with one child living in Likoni. She sells charcoal in the market. With the proceeds she has been able to pay school fees for her child.
She realizes the harmful effects her business has on the environment, and her desire is to acquire enough profits to venture into other safe energy sources like solar. Chacha intends to use the loan to buy charcoal to sell.
About Yehu Microfinance Trust
This loan is administered by Yehu Microfinance Trust, which was founded in 1998 as a project of CHOICE Humanitarian Kenya. In July 2007, Yehu became a separate entity from CHOICE and was registered as a trust. Since then, Yehu has expanded to cover over half of Kenya’s 13 coastal districts.
