Living in a rural village located in the Battambang province’s Thmor Koul district, Savorn is 33 and married with 2 children, both of whom are dependents and still attend school. For the last 13 years, she has been farming rice while her husband works as a taxi driver. Her current business earns her about KHR 27,000 per day of which she can save about KHR 14,000 daily for future needs.
This is the second loan for Savorn with Kiva’s partner, VisionFund. Now requesting a loan of KHR 3,000,000, she is going to use it to buy fertilizer for her farmland and use a portion of it to buy grocery items to sell, earning additional income for her family. She hopes to earn more income so as to better off her family’s living condition.
About VisionFund Cambodia
VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.
Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.
