A hardworking local farmer from Thbaung Khmum district of Kampong Cham province, Tha is an 53-year-old widow mother with six children. To feed the entire family, she struggles to support her family through rice farming, rubber tree planting, and casual labor. Her current business earns her about 30,000 KHR per day. This is the third loan for Tha with VisionFund (Kiva’s partner). She feels confident that she has improved her living standard due to her past loans which she fully paid back. Now, she is seeking a new loan for 2,100,000 KHR. She will use this loan to buy a decent motorbike to support her business as well as for family use. The motorbike will reduce the shipping expenses and transportation fees that she used to have to pay. Therefore, she can save that money to support her family instead.
About VisionFund Cambodia
VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.
Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.
