Rat, a mother of two daughters, is a rural villager from Kampong Cham province. She is 26 years old and plants cassava as a single source of family income. For several years, she has been in this business, and she is able to earn up to 20,000 KHR per day and save up about 7,200 KHR. Rat has been with VisionFund (Kiva’s partner) for the past three cycles and has fully repaid back her loan, which has relieved her family’s burden better than before. Now, she is reapplying for the fourth loan with VisionFund in amount of 2,000,000 KHR. She will use her loan to buy fertilizer and pesticide. She hopes to boost her crop yield and minimize her loss due to pests so that she can gain more yield with more profit.
About VisionFund Cambodia
VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.
Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.
