Dounkafa Group

Married and all living in extended, traditional families, the 5 women of the Dounkafa group have an average age of 34 and, on average, 4 children. They all live in the N°1 district of Tominian, in the Ségou region (4th administrative region of Mali) and got to know each other via neighbourly and family relationships. They have different businesses. The members of the Dounkafa group decided to join Soro Yiriwaso in order to increase their business and are on their 6th group loan.

Fanta (the woman standing on the left and wearing a white scarf around her neck in the picture) is a large seller of cereals, more specifically of rice, in the N°1 district and the surrounding area. She plans to use her loan to buy 10 bags of paddy rice, at 10 000 francs per bag, and then dehusk it. She gets her supplies at the San market fair and makes her sales door-to-door in her district, for cash and occasionally credit, to a retail clientèle made up of men and women. Thanks to this loan, Fanta hopes to make an average monthly profit of 25 000 francs, which will be reinvested in her business and used to take care of the households needs.
Toutes mariées dans des familles traditionnelles élargies, les CINQ femmes du groupe Dounkafa ont en moyenne 34ans et 4 enfants. Elles habitent toutes le quartier N°1 de Tominian dans la région de Ségou (4ème région administrative du Mali) et se sont connues à travers des liens de voisinage et de parenté. Elles mènent diverses activités.
Dans le but d’augmenter leurs fonds de commerce, les membres du groupe ont intégré Soro Yiriwaso et sont à leur 6 ème prêt solidaire.
Madame Fanta (1ere femme debout vers gauche avec un foulard blanc au coud sur la photo) est une grande vendeuse de céréales plus précisément du riz dans le quartier N° 1 et ses alentours.
Elle compte utiliser son prêt pour acheter, 10 sacs de riz paddy à raison de 10000 FCFA le sac, pour ensuite les décortiquer. Elle s’approvisionne à la foire de San.et effectue ses ventes à domicile dans son quartier au comptant, en détail et quelques fois à crédit à une clientèle composée d’hommes de femmes.
Avec ce prêt, Madame FANTA espère réaliser un bénéfice mensuel moyen de 25000 FCFA qui sera utilisé pour être réinvesti dans l’activité et prendre en charge des besoins du foyer.

Soro Yiriwaso is a microfinance institution that works primarily in rural and semi-urban areas of Mali to provide underprivileged communities with access to financial services.The organization facilitates access for disadvantaged clients, particularly women, to new resources and services, fostering solidarity and cooperation among its clients. Kiva lenders’ funds will enable Soro Yiriwaso to expand its outreach and target even more underserved Malians involved in business and agriculture.
