Vat is aged 46 years old and married. He lives with his wife and five children in a rural area located in the Dambae district, Cambodia. He is a rice farmer of two hectares of farmland. Besides this, he also plants cassava and rubber trees to earn additional income for his family.
Vat has been in this business for 11 years. The current business earns his family about US $20 per day to feed the family, but he manages to save about US $7 each day.
This is the first loan for Vat with Kiva’s partner, VisionFund. Now he is requesting a loan. He is going to use this loan to purchase fertilizer, pesticides and seeds for his farmland.
Vat hopes to increase his crop yield, so as to sell it for a good price to make a better living.
About VisionFund Cambodia
VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.
Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.
