Wendy is an honest, responsible, and hardworking young woman who lives with her husband and two children in Choluteca, in the south of Honduras. She has a store that she has been operating for more than two years.

Wendy is asking for this loan in order to buy soda, coffee, sugar, bread, beans, rice, cooking grease, sauces, pasta, eggs, and churros, among other things. With this loan she hopes to increase her sales given that she will have more products to offer the clients that visit her, thereby complying with their necessities.

Wendy, as the other members of her lending group, hopes to improve her economic situation, and in a few years hopes that her business is positioned as one of the larger ones in her neighborhood. This way, she will be able to continue to support her family.

The other members of the group, Yesenia and Waleska, also have their own businesses. Yesenia has been buying and selling American clothes for the past five years, and Waleska has been working making tortillas for the past three years.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
