Rafaela is a 64-year-old married woman with three children, living in Tangub City, Misamis Occidental. She owns and manages a fishing business, and sells fish in the local village to make a living. Rafaela has run her business for over ten years, and makes around 7,000 Philippines Pesos (PHP) a month.
Rafaela joined GDMPC in 2009, and she is now asking for a loan of 10,500 PHP to buy fishing equipment such as hooks and nets. She plans to use the extra revenue generated to improve and expand her business.
Gata Daku Multi-Purpose Cooperative (GDMPC) was founded in 1992 by 32 farmer-members to empower people by providing livelihood opportunities and other support services. Today, it has over 15,000 members located in upland, lowland and coastal regions of the Philippines, and offers credit, savings, education, and various social services.
