Joven is a 58-year-old married man with four children, living in Clarin in Misamis Occidental. He owns and manages some farmland for a living, planting and harvesting corn to sell. He's managed the land for five years now, and he earns around 8,000 Philippines Pesos (PHP) a month.
Joven joined GDMPC in 2010, and he is now asking for a loan of 11,000 PHP to buy fertilizer such as manure. He plans to use the extra revenue generated to improve and expand his business.
Gata Daku Multi-Purpose Cooperative (GDMPC) was founded in 1992 by 32 farmer-members to empower people by providing livelihood opportunities and other support services. Today, it has over 15,000 members located in upland, lowland and coastal regions of the Philippines, and offers credit, savings, education, and various social services.
