Living in a wooden house with her family members in a rural village of the Kror Kor district, Noern is aged 56 years and married with 10 children, three of whom are dependent on her and still in school. She and her husband earn a living through farming rice and raise pigs to support their family. To supplement the income, her husband also works for others for a fee. Having been in this business for several years, Noern manages to earn about 15,000 KHR (Cambodian riels) per day and can save about 5,000 KHR each day for future needs.
Noern has been with VisionFund for two loan cycles. She successfully paid back the past loans. Now she is applying for another with VisionFund of 2,000,000 KHR to buy a plot of farmland. She hopes this loan will enable her to expand her current business so as to better her living conditions.
About VisionFund Cambodia
VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.
Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.
