Bathsheba is aged 29 years and a farmer in Kisii county, Kenya. She lives with her husband and two children, of whom one has started schooling. She has been in farming for the past six years, producing milk, maize and beans, which she sells at the local market in her area. She is employed as a clerk, for an additional source of income.
She is requesting a 62,400 KES loan from Juhudi Kilimo to buy and insure a dairy cow. The cow will provide her with more milk for sale and earn her extra income, which she will use to improve her living standard and to pay for her children’s schooling. She aspires to have bought another dairy cow in the next five years.
Diseases and fluctuations of prices are her major challenges in farming. She is very grateful to Juhudi Kilimo, for the faster way it does the processing of loans.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
