Teresa is 35 years old and a farmer in Kisii county in Kenya where she lives with her husband and four children. Three of her children have started schooling. She has been farming for the past fifteen years producing milk, maize and beans which she sells at the local market in her area.
She is requesting for 62,400 KES loan from Juhudi Kilimo to buy and insure a dairy cow that will provide her with more milk for sale and earn her extra income. She will use this income to improve her living standards and pay for her children’s schooling. She aspires to buy another dairy cow in the next five years.
Fluctuation of prices and too much rainfall are her major challenges in farming.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
