Joyce is aged 34 years and a farmer in Kitale county, Kenya. She lives with her husband and five children; two of the children are still schooling. Joyce has been in farming for over ten years, producing eggs, bananas, sugarcane and milk, which she sells at the nearby market in her area.
She is requesting a 41,600 KES loan from Juhudi Kilimo to buy and insure a dairy cow. The cow will provide her with more milk for sale and earn her extra income, which will help her to improve her living standard and to pay for her children's schooling in the future. Joyce aspires to have bought a pick-up for transporting her produce, in the next five years.
Competition, pests and diseases are her major challenges in farming. She is very thankful to Juhudi Kilimo for offering the loan to her.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
