Living in a rural village of the Dambae district, Cheng is aged 44 and is married with four children, two of whom are still in school. The main sources of income for the family come from rice farming and planting cassava. To better support her family, her husband complements the income by planting rubber trees. They have been in this business for twenty years. The current business earns her about 17US$ per day to meet the family’s needs.
Cheang has been with VisionFund for five cycles and completely paid back the past loans which have helped her better support her family with enough foods and allowed her to build a new house to live in. Now she is requesting a loan. With this loan, she is going to use her portion to buy fertilizer and pesticides for her farmland. She hopes to increase further her crop yield so as to improve her standard of living.
About VisionFund Cambodia
VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.
Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.
