Adriana María is 39 years old and completely committed to her family. She is motivated to enjoy and share every moment of her life with her son and husband.
After her husband suffered accident at work, Adriana had to take control of the household and generate an income to pay for food and education for their three children, all of whom are still minors. Living in the city of Medellín, Adriana decided to move to the municipality of Pueblo Rico as the cost of living there is much lower.
Her father-in-law gifted Adriana a plot of land where they have started to build a home, thanks to sales of products through catalogues.
The family's dream now is to start a business selling basic household goods, taking advantage of the fact that there is a need for such a store in their local area. To make this dream a reality Adriana is applying for a loan to invest in buying a glass cabinet, paying for adapting the house for the business and for buying stock. She hopes that this idea for a business will allow her to improve her family's living conditions and that it will bring an end to work on their home.

This loan is structured on Kiva as a bullet loan, which means a single payment is required at the end of the loan term. By Colombian law, Kiva's partner Interactuar is required to offer borrowers loans with a variable interest rate that fluctuates with the market rate. Because fixed monthly payments are applied first to interest and then to principal, Interactuar is unable to predict upfront what portion of each repayment would go towards the loan principal. This creates a challenge with Kiva's system, which doesn't allow for unpredictable principal payments, and can result in some Interactuar clients appearing falsely delinquent. To remedy this, the loan has an end-of-term repayment plan on Kiva, but the borrower will continue scheduled monthly repayments to Interactuar, who will then pass along the principal amount to Kiva lenders. This means that you may see repayments made on this loan throughout the repayment term, as opposed to receiving repayment in full at the end of the loan term.
