Richard is aged thirty-seven, a farmer in Kitale county in Kenya where he lives with his wife and three children who are all schooling. He has been in farming for the past four years producing maize, beans, milk and horticultural crops which he sells at the local market in his area.
He is requesting a 31,200 KES loan from Juhudi Kilimo to buy and insure a dairy cow. He will sell the milk and earn extra income which will help him boost his family’s living standards and pay for his children’s schooling. He aspires to have bought two more high grade dairy cows in the next five years.
Diseases and fluctuation of prices are his major challenges in farming.
He is very grateful to Juhudi Kilimo for giving him the loan.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
