Samuel is fifty-two and a farmer in Kitale county in Kenya where he lives with his wife and six children. Three of them are still schooling. He has been in farming for the past twenty-five years, producing milk, maize and poultry products which he sells at the local market in his area. He runs a retail shop as an additional source of income.
He is requesting a 60,000 KES loan from Juhudi Kilimo to purchase poultry birds which he will raise and sell and earn extra income to help him uplift his livelihood and also pay for his children’s schooling. He aspires to have bought another dairy cow and more poultry birds in the next five years.
Poor transport networks and high competition are his major challenges in farming.
Samuel is very grateful to Juhudi Kilimo for financing him with the loan.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
