Carroleney is a twenty-eight-year-old farmer in Kitale county in Kenya, where she lives with her husband and two children who are both schooling. She has been in farming for the past four years, producing maize, vegetables and beans that she sells at the local market in her area.
She wants to venture into poultry farming. She is requesting a 30,000 KES loan from Juhudi kilimo to purchase poultry birds. She will sell their products and earn extra income to help her uplift her livelihood and also pay for her children’s schooling. She aspires to start a dairy project in the next five years.
Poor transport networks and high competition are her major challenges in farming. She is very thankful to Juhudi kilimo for giving her the loan.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
