Ridah is a 73-year-old farmer in Kitale County in Kenya, where she lives. She is widowed and has four children who have all finished schooling. She has been in farming for the past thirty years, producing maize, poultry products, horticultural crops and milk, which she sells at the nearby market in her area. She makes and sells bricks as an additional source of income.
Ridah is requesting a 41,600 KES loan from Juhudi Kilimo to buy and insure a dairy cow. This will provide her with more milk for sale and earn her extra income, which will help her uplift her living standards. She aspires to have six dairy cows in the next five years.
Competition and unreliable workers are her major challenges in farming.
Ridah is very grateful to Juhudi Kilimo for helping her improve her lifestyle.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
