Andrew, a 39-year-old farmer, lives in Kitale county, Kenya, with his wife and two children, both in school. He has been farming for the past seven years, producing milk, eggs, tomatoes, maize and beans, which he sells at the local market.
Andrew is requesting a loan of 60,000 KES from Juhudi Kilimo to purchase poultry birds. He will sell the products and earn extra income to help uplift his livelihood and to pay for his children’s schooling.
Andrew's major farming challenges are poor transport networks and high competition. He aspires to have two thousand poultry birds in the next five years.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
