Rose, a 48-year-old farmer, lives in Kitale county, Kenya, with her husband and four children, three of them still in school. She has been farming for the past 26 years, producing milk, maize, eggs and beans, which she sells at the local market.
Rose is requesting a loan of 60,000 KES from Juhudi Kilimo to purchase poultry birds. She will sell the products and earn extra income to help uplift her livelihood and pay for her children’s schooling. Rose aspires to have one thousand poultry birds in the next five years. Her major farming challenges are pests and diseases. Rose is very thankful to Juhudi Kilimo for giving her the loan.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
