George is a 37-year-old farmer from Kitale county in Kenya, where he lives with his wife and four children who are all in school. He has been farming for the past seven years producing milk, maize, eggs, and beans, which he sells at the local market in his area.
He is requesting a loan in the amount of 60,000 KES from Juhudi Kilimo to purchase poultry birds. He will sell their products and earn extra income to help him uplift his livelihood and also pay for his children’s schooling. He aspires to be the leading egg supplier in his area in the next five years.
Poor transport networks and high competition are his major challenges in farming.
George hopes Juhudi Kilimo will introduce school fee loans in the near future.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
