Matilde is a 60-year-old widow with two children. She owns and operates a fish pond business, selling crabs and fish in the local community. She has been engaged in her business for over 20 years and earns approximately 6,500 Philippine pesos (PHP) a month. In 2009, she joined GDMPC to gain access to financial services to help improve her living situation and her ability to engage in the business. Now she is requesting a loan of 9,000 PHP to purchase additional fish and crabs to sell. She plans to use the additional revenue generated from the business to improve and expand her business.
Gata Daku Multi-Purpose Cooperative (GDMPC) was founded in 1992 by 32 farmer-members to empower people by providing livelihood opportunities and other support services. Today, it has over 15,000 members located in upland, lowland and coastal regions of the Philippines, and offers credit, savings, education, and various social services.
