Faruk is 25 years old and lives in the town of Luwero, in the Luwero region of Uganda. He is married and has one child. For the past six years, Faruk has been working hard to manage his retail shop, where he sells phone accessories.

To help expand his business, Faruk has requested a loan of 3,000,000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. He will use the loan to buy more phone accessories to resell. These purchases will help Faruk to generate greater profits, and he will be able to complete building his residential houses. Faruk hopes that in the future, he will be able to open the same business in another branch.

Faruk is a member of BRAC's Small Enterprise Program (SEP). The program serves primarily small entrepreneurs like Faruk, who do not have enough collateral for commercial loans, but have businesses that have grown too large for microloans.
