This group, called “Montserrat”, is composed of 19 members whose principal businesses are selling clothing and food. They live in the city of Puerto Montt, in southern Chile.

Maria Alejandra, in the photo the 3rd from right to left, wearing the short-sleeved jacket with black flowers, has for the last 10 years made and sold pastries. First, she learned from her family, then took courses in baking pastries and banquet preparation. Maria Alejandrina works from home and in market fairs. She advertises her products by flyers and on the internet. She buys her ingredients in wholesale supply stores. Maria Alejandra will use her loan to purchase ingredients such as flour, eggs, sugar, flavorings, etc.

Her dream is to expand her business and to have a coffee shop. What motivates her to continue in business is to have security that she can count on, with the help of Fondo Esperanza through loans and advice. Maria Alejandra is married and has a 19-year-old daughter who studies in the university.

Maria tells us that what she likes most about Fondo Esperanza is its good ambients, cordiality, good treatment, and the good relations that exist there.

Puerto Montt is a city in the south of Chile, located in region of Los Lagos. One of the attractions of Puerto Montt is its beautiful green landscapes, its little-frequented beaches, its gastronomy and especially its reputation for fish and seafood, and its artisan crafts. It is also the port of entry to the Isla Grande de Chiloe, rich in traditions and legends.

Este grupo se llama “Montserrat” lo integran 19 emprendedores, sus principales negocios son venta de ropa y alimentos. Pertenecen a la ciudad de Puerto Montt, sur de Chile.
María Alejandra Paredes, en la foto la tercera de derecha a izquierda, viste chaqueta manga corta blanca con flores negras; desde hace 10 años que se dedica al rubro Pastelería; primero aprendió de su familia, posteriormente tomo cursos de repostería y banquetearía. Trabaja desde su casa y en ferias; da a conocer sus productos por afiches e internet.
Compra su mercadería en supermercados mayoristas.
María Alejandra usó su crédito para abastecerse de ingredientes., tales como harina, huevos, azúcar, esencias, etc.
Su sueño es ver crecer su negocio y tener una cafetería.
Lo que más la motiva en seguir con su negocio, es que tiene la seguridad que contará con la ayuda de Fondo Esperanza ( créditos, asesoría)
Es casada, tiene una hija de 19 años quien estudia en la universidad.
Nos cuenta que lo que más le gusta de Fondo Esperanza es que hay un buen ambiente, cordialidad, buen trato y buenas relaciones.
Puerto Montt es una ciudad del sur de Chile, ubicada en la región de Los Lagos. Una de las atracciones de Puerto Montt son sus bellos paisajes verdes; sus playas poco frecuentadas; su gastronomía y especialmente la reputación de sus pescados y mariscos y sus artesanías. Es también la puerta de entrada a la Isla Grande de Chiloé, rica en tradiciones y leyendas.

About Fondo Esperanza

Fondo Esperanza (FE) is a private non-profit organization that supports entrepreneurship by providing micro-credit and training to people living in poverty in well over 100 cities throughout Chile. By providing these services, FE aims to improve the living conditions of the entrepreneurs and their families. In 2010, FE provided loans to more than 41,000 entrepreneurs. It utilizes a communal banking model in which groups of 18 to 25 clients meet on regularly and guarantee each other’s loans. The members use their portion of the loan to create or expand their own businesses. In the group meetings, clients receive training though the FE Entrepreneurship School, which enhances clients’ personal and business skills and ability to work in groups.

The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee.
