The communal bank "Duo Mujeres Solidarias" has two members. Rosa Maria is the leader of the group. She tells us that she has been making clay griddles for more than 18 years, and she also sells newspapers by the pound and staple food products, because these products can be sold during the whole year. Rosa Maria wants to continue to support her children, who are going to continue with their education. She has 4 children, 2 of whom are already in high school. Rosa Maria wants them to get a college education, which is something that she never got the opportunity to do. Also, she wants to go out to sell in the towns that are close to her community so that she could have more income from her sales. Rosa Maria is requesting this loan to buy staple food products to sell.

This is a Group Loan
In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.
Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
