Fatuma is married and 32 years old. She is from Tiribe, a coastal town in Kenya, where she lives with her five children. She owns a fish stall, where she she sells dried fish. She buys fish in large quantity, and at wholesale price, from the fishermen, themselves. She resells to consumers in small amounts, at a fair retail price.
Tiribe, being a coastal town, has many people who are consumers of fish. She has sold dried fish for a period of two years, and she has been able to widen her customer base, through good relationships. Now, she has approached us (Yehu) for a loan amounting to KES 10,000 to expand her business by buying a larger quantity of fish.
About Yehu Microfinance Trust
This loan is administered by Yehu Microfinance Trust, which was founded in 1998 as a project of CHOICE Humanitarian Kenya. In July 2007, Yehu became a separate entity from CHOICE and was registered as a trust. Since then, Yehu has expanded to cover over half of Kenya’s 13 coastal districts.
