Gerard is the coordinator of his group "Les Anges de Ouanaminthe". He is married and has four children. He lives in the northern region of Haiti where electricity is scarce and the water supply very limited. He has been managing his own business for the past six years.

Gerard would like to use his loan to invest in the sale of athletic shoes and clothing. He hopes that this loan will help him to expand his commercial activity. The other members of the group need a loan to finance such retail activities as the sale of charcoal, cosmetic products and other various goods.

According to Gerard, his main challenge is a lack of buyers. Too many people also want to buy on credit. His main goal is to expand his business and to meet the needs of a larger group of customers, with God's help.

Additional Information

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
