Mary is a widow with three adult children. She is also a grandmother who takes care of her grandchildren. For ten years, she has had a business selling charcoal at the market seven days a week. She generates additional income from rental rooms. Her major business challenges include seasonality, thieves and defaulters.
Mary has applied for a loan of 2,700,000 Uganda shillings (UGX) from MCDT-SACCO to buy more bags of charcoal. She aspries to become a wholesaler and also to build more rental rooms. She resides in her own house and the family has access to electricity and piped water. Her monthly expenses includes feeding the family and paying their utility bills.
