Samoya Bidii Group's story

Jentrix’s group has 10 farmers and is located in Bungoma South District. Jentrix is pictured on the right of Samoya Bidii Group with her hand raised. Jentrix is pictured among the two men and eight women of her group. She will receive a loan capable of planting half an acre with sorghum and maize. Jentrix first enrolled with One Acre Fund during the 2011 long rains and is now preparing to be a One Acre Fund farmer during the 2013 long rains season. Jentrix joined One Acre Fund to gain access to hybrid seed and fertilizer as well as to improve her farming techniques with the One Acre Fund method.

Before joining One Acre Fund, Jentrix was only able to harvest four bags of maize per half acre, but after joining One Acre Fund during the long rains of 2012, she was able to harvest 14 bags per half acre! She plans to use future profits from the harvest to send her children to school and invest in livestock (buying a cow and poultry farming). During the 2013 long rains season, each group member will receive receive an acre of agricultural supplies on credit. Jentrix’s group will receive 4.5 acres worth of supplies on credit.

Catherine, a member of Samoya Bidii Group, is pictured above. However, her husband has already appeared on Kiva and she shares her OAF membership with him. In order to prevent the double funding of a farmer, she is pictured as a member of the group, but will not receive funding from this loan.
