Phorn
Phorn, 52, is a rural villager in Ek Phnom district of Battambang province. Phorn is the breadwinner for his family of six children. Currently, he needs to support only one son who is still in school. He does rice farming as his main business plus fishing for resale and working for others for a fee to supplement his income. From his business, he is able to earn up to 25,000 KHR per day. Phorn is not a new borrower as he has been with VisionFund (Kiva’s partner) for three previous loans already. He has fully paid back his last loan and it has enabled him to provide decent daily food for his children. He is applying for a fourth loan in amount of 3,000,000 KHR in order to buy a decent motorbike to support his routine job as a construction paid worker and also support his business. He hopes that this purchase will help him to save his travel time so as he can use his time to look after his child. Moreover, he is able to ship his crop to the market for selling.

About VisionFund Cambodia

VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.

Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.
