Aged 46 and living in Moung Russey district of Battambang province, Sarem is a farmer who is responsible for three of her six children as they are still students in the local public school. She and her husband manage four hectares of rainy season rice cultivation and two hectares of sesame planting. The current business, which she has been with for 10 years, earns her about 40,000 KHR per day.
Sarem has never been with Kiva Field Partner, VisionFund, before. Now, she applies for her first loan in order to buy one hectare of farmland. She hopes that this purchase will help her to enlarge her sesame planting scale and generate good income for her children’s sake and to sustain her living.
About VisionFund Cambodia
VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.
Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.
