Carlos
Carlos, 66, is father of five children aged 36, 34, 28, 26 and 22 years; all are independent. He’s retired and he and his wife currently work selling natural refreshments and pastry at home. He’s asking for the loan to continue with home improvements, specifically the front of the house and the roof since he’s wanted to make these improvements to the house since he acquired the property and to date has had difficulty doing so for lack of the necessary income. He’s gradually been able to do some home improvements thanks to loans from this institution and was able to remodel the kitchen and the bedrooms since he has support from his children. When Carlos gets the loan he plans to use it to buy blocks, cement and iron rods, among other building supplies.

About Housing Loans

Many poor families cannot afford housing that meets their needs. When you make a housing loan on Kiva, you give people access to flexible capital to obtain or improve their homes. Better housing means better health, sanitation, and even educational outcomes for children. A house can also be much more for entrepreneurs who run businesses out of their homes. In this way, housing and small business loans on Kiva share a common purpose: to alleviate poverty and enable families to enjoy more stable lives.
