Makarimal Akhlakh 20 Yoff is a mixed group of ten members, including eight women and two men. They joined the same economic interest group, which used to be a 'dahira' (a religious association) through which they met weekly and paid dues for mutual assistance.

They all have revenue-generating businesses and are represented by Ms. Ndeye Sokhna. She has been active in commerce for over five years and sells cloth. The revenues her business brings in enable her to cover her family's day-to-day expenses, as well as her rent.

She is requesting a loan with the goal of bolstering her working capital. The loan will be for purchasing cloth to increase her inventory of cloth. She would like to increase her profits and be able to join other women in financing some containers. She envisions making her commercial work more profitable.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
