Luzminda is a 49-year-old widowed mother of four children. She lives in Clarin, Misamis Occidental.
She has been operating a general retail store for the past two years. She earns 15,000 PHP a month.
In 2011, Luzminda joined GDMPC to gain access to financial services. She expected such services to help improve her business and living situation. Now she is requesting a loan of 20,000 PHP to buy more items to resell, such as eggs, noodles, shampoo, soap and toothpaste. She plans to use the additional revenue generated from the business to improve the general living conditions of her family.
Gata Daku Multi-Purpose Cooperative (GDMPC) was founded in 1992 by 32 farmer-members to empower people by providing livelihood opportunities and other support services. Today, it has over 15,000 members located in upland, lowland and coastal regions of the Philippines, and offers credit, savings, education, and various social services.
