Astar's Group
In this Group: Astar, Farzana, Renaz, Amna, Ghulam, Fazeelat
Astar is 32 years old, and a hard-working, independent woman. She lives in Punjab, Pakistan, with her husband, two daughters and son. All of the children are students. Her husband is a government employee, and his income is insufficient to meet the household expenses. So to help her husband, since 2010 Astar has been running a beauty salon in her house.

She wants to purchase some more cosmetic products like lipsticks, nail polishes, facial creams and makeup kits, for her beauty salon. For that reason, Astar, as a member of a six-person lending group, has requested a loan from Kiva's partner, BRAC Pakistan. Upon getting a profit, first of all she will repay the loan amount to Kiva, and then she wants to build a new room in the salon, as the space in the salon is too congested. She hopes that her business will grow more, and she is very much thankful to both Brac Pakistan and Kiva.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
