A diligent farmer from Ek Phnom district of Battambang province, Yis is a 59-year-old married mother of four children. To earn a daily living, she and her husband have been growing rice. She has been engaged in this business for thirty years. For her, the main challenge are the floods that destroy her crop output. The current business earns her about 36,000 KHR per day and allows her to save about 10,000 KHR each day after daily expenses.
Yis has been with VisionFund for two cycles and completely paid back the past loans which have helped her to relieve her family’s burden and improve their livelihood. Now she is requesting a new loan of 1,500,000 KHR to buy fertilizers and rice seeds for her farmland. She will use a portion of it on labor costs for plowing the field.
About VisionFund Cambodia
VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.
Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.
