Tham is a 60-year-old mother of 10 children living in Battambang Province, Cambodia. She is a local rice farmer on four hectares of farmland. She has support from her husband who sometimes works for others for a fee to make additional income. Tham has been in this business for 30 years.
Tham has never received a loan from VisionFund, Kiva’s partner. She is seeking her first loan.
Tham will use her loan to buy gasoline for water pumping, fertilizer, and insecticide to support her rice field. She hopes to grow her rice seasonably so that she can multiply her crop production and gain more income for her family’s sake.
About VisionFund Cambodia
VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.
Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.
