Neam's Group
In this Group: Neam, Chantha, Noeurn, Huy
Age 37, Neam is a local farmer residing in Battambang Province’s Moung Russey district. Her family consists of five members including her three children; she needs to cater for all of her children as two of them are students while the remaining one is helping with the household chores. Growing rainy-season rice on three hectares of farmland and planting sesame on two hectares of farmland are the main source of her family's income. Besides helping on the farm, her husband also uses his free time to work as motor-taxi driver to supplement their income. She has 10 years of experiences in this business, from which she is able to earn up to 24,700 KHR per day.

This is the fourth loan cycle for Neam and the other three co-borrowers with VisionFund, Kiva’s partner. The previous loans have helped improve her lifestyle and improve her business. She also has repaid back her loan with success. Now, she and two of her fellow group members are seeking 1,400,000 KHR each whereas the remaining member is seeking 1,000,000 KHR.

Neam wants her portion to pay harvesting fees and to purchase sesame seed as well as insecticide for her sesame farm. She expects to gain a good yield on time so she can double her income and keep better living conditions for her family and especially provide for her children’s education.

About VisionFund Cambodia

VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.

Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
